Goddess Ceridwen Chanelled Essence
Welsh Goddess Cerridwen (pronounced KEH-rid-wen) is the perfect Goddess for November time as we enter Winter and follow it to Winter Solstice. For she is the Goddess who stirs the cauldron of rebirth and the goddess of inspiration, alchemy and deep knowing who transforms experience into wisdom. Her essence also pairs beautifully with my Mugwort essence. And that is exactly the sort of inner work that our ancestors would have been doing at
this season. Just as Nature knows this is a time to shed and to go inwards in order to rebirth ourselves at Spring next year, so should we too, look to this deep work. I have worked with Goddess Cerridwen for a few years now and she is a perfect Goddess for me in many ways. She enshrines my Welsh lineage and love of the Welsh traditions and Land. She also emblemises the poet and writer. It is in her cauldron that she brews a magical potion that will give her son Morfran wisdom and poetic insight but on tasking her servant Gwion Bach to stir it for a year and a day, three drops accidentally splash on him and he imbibes it when he places his thumb in his mouth. Thereby Cerridwen pursues him on learning he has drunk of her magic brew and he is able to transform himself into hare, fish, bird, grain as Cerridwen pursues him as a dog, otter, hawk and hen. Gwion is eventually reborn as the great bard and seer Taliesin. Cerridwen’s cauldron is symbolic of the lessons that we have gathered throughout the year. All that has been gathered, lived and released. In Cerridwen’s cauldron sorrow transmutes into understanding and endings become seeds. The Truth and lesson that she brings is that true magic is transmutation as opposed to suppression. Cerridwen’s message whispers:
“Be patient. Let it cook. What is brewing in you is sacred.”
