Sunflower Shining: Sunflower Flower Essence

It seems incredible that six months have passed since I first started writing this column.  I have led you through snowdrops, wild violets, roses, oak, Aphrodite, Nemetona and much more.  And in this time, so much has changed and shifted for me.  I have been moving with nature, in tune with her subtleties as I transform into a newer and shinier version of myself.

It is never an easy process….surrendering to change: especially when you feel that you have not asked for it and are even less sure that this is what you wish to receive!  If we do not let go of those things that are outdated and tired in our lives then we then never make space to welcome what is new and beautiful into our lives either.

However, there is always an innate wisdom and beauty in change that seems to have been imposed upon us and to which we might find ourselves resistant.  In my case, these last few months have been invaluable as it has given space to gestate something new and now it is finally time to be a published author!  My book chapter about Mary Magdalene and the Red Rose Essence is finally to be published next Tuesday on Mary Magdalene’s Feast day.

Sometimes though the kind of change that is forced upon us can be much less desirable and not lead to new opportunities in quite the same way.  Losing someone we love whether that be physically or emotionally or both can be extremely hard and emotionally painful. All loss is a form of grief but some grief is so sharp and so ever-present that processing and transitioning through it can be some of our biggest challenges on this plane of existence.

Sunflower came to me about six months after I lost my Dad to cancer in December 2021.  She came to me at the Summer Solstice of 2022 and as the flower spirits do: she bade me make her essence.  I had no idea at the time that I would become a flower essence producer (that was one of life’s sweet realisations that descend upon you).  I was simply an Advanced Flower Essence Practitioner.   And I say “she” quite provocatively as sunflowers are often thought to carry the Divine Masculine energies of the Sun.  And they do.

This sunflower was very special though as it wished to unite and balance the feminine and masculine energies that we all carry within us whether we identify as male or female.  We all have both energies within us and it is in our best interests to have these in harmony.  My sunflower essence does this as it carries both the solar and the lunar energies in one and in its other two forms that I created, as instructed by the Sunflower spirit; I made a solar sunflower essence and a lunar so that those that need to balance one in particular may take these energies on in a little bottle of joy!

Sunflower essence is really attuned with the energies of this time of the year or this “turn of the wheel” because it speaks of us shining and taking our soul gifts into the world at Summer Solstice when the sun is at its zenith and at Lammas which occurs on the 1st of August and celebrates our “harvest” or what it is that we have received back from our efforts sent out into the cosmos.  For me one of those is my book chapter birthing.

Sometimes we can be shy about sharing our gifts and this is another place where Sunflower shines!  She/he takes your hand and helps you to shine and to be radiant in so doing! She helps us travel through grief and loss and find the wonderful memories that our loved ones gifted us or a situation or loss of some sort gave us and transmute this into gold so that we can travel through the pain and hold a nugget of gold at the end.

Of course, Sunflower helps us to feel more positive, hopeful, joyful, celebratory and to celebrate ourselves on every level.  If we’re not able to she will energetically sort through the energetic “why” and help us heal it, receiving our golden nugget of realisation or wisdom.
